My PS3 Wont Recognize Memory Sticks?

Hey guys i want to play my ps3 but i cant as i have used up all of the hard drive. I went out and brought a 16gb memory stick and plugged it in. My PS3 wont recognize it! Does anyone know what to do?

  1. I don’t know why it doesn’t recognize it, but I suggest you take it to where you bought it ans ask if it’s compatible with your PS3 (find out what type of PS3 you have if you don’t know). Can’t you delete some stuff on your PS3? Are you trying to move stuff from your PS3 to the memory stick? I haven’t tried that, so I’m not sure. I have the same problem with pictures. Whenever I try to move pictures to my ps3, it won’t read/recognize the pictures, but it recognizes music and videos.

  2. First off, for the PS3 to recognize any external device, it MUST be formatted as FAT32. So that’s the first step.

    Secondly, the PS3 CANNOT use an external device as a primary source, it can ONLY be used for backup and media purposes. So if you want more space, you have to delete stuff or upgrade the hard drive.

    Simple as that.

  3. You can’t use memory sticks and other USB devices for additional storage space.

    It’ll use them for media or for backups, but not for anything else.
